why our solutions work

The protective case needs of K-12 laptop schools varies greatly from those of an adult. Our research has indicated that school's have the most sucess (less damage, kids actually love and use the solutions) when using a highly protective, dedicated laptop sleeve that is designed to not only protect the computer fulltime, but also resonates aesthetically with students. A protective case is of little use if a student refuses to use it. Larger, more generic backpacks often experience more ware and tear and do not allow the students to reflect their individuality or address their own specific carrying needs. A dedicated sleeve can often still be placed into a backpack or carried separately. When placed into a backpack, it is extremely important that the sleeve have the proper internal structure to withstand irregular pressures (from foreign objects in the backpack) on the broad flat surfaces of the case. This greatly reduces the number of cracked screens that often otherwise occur. All Higher Ground solutions incorporate a rigid, padded perimeter frame as well as corrugated plastic panels on both the front and back of the case for added screen protection. Higher Ground cases are thoroughly kid tested and approved by leading insurance providers to reduce the frequency of damage.

Laptops are at high risk for damage (drop damage or cracked screen from squeezing too hard) when placing and removing from lockers.   The handle location facilitates confident removal, greatly reducing the likelihood of drop damage.

Irregular shaped items in a general use backpack can easily crack LCD screens when uneven pressure is applied to the laptops surface. Regular backpacks also lack the proper padding and structure to safely transport computer gear.   A dedicated computer case with the proper padding and stiffeners (on all 6 sides) is a far superior method of transport. Whether it be a quick walk across the hall, or a field trip to a museum, your laptop will be well protected.

unique features

suggested RFP wording

• The case should be as compact and lightweight as possible to avoid unnecessary weight, yet accommodate the laptop and required accessories while providing adequate protection for the computer.

• The case must be rugged enough to withstand student use / abuse, constructed of durable, weatherproof materials with adequate reinforcement in high wear and stress areas.

• The case should permit use of the laptop without the need to remove it from the bag (providing full-time protection), as well as provide a means for preventing heat buildup while in use.

• The carrying case should have a combination of rigid stiffeners and foam padding to safely protect the laptop in the event of a drop or fall.

• The case should have an aesthetic that resonates with, and is appropriate for students. It should not look like an adult briefcase.

Optional

• The design should provide the student with a variety of carrying options including a handle, single shoulder strap or backpack configuration.

• The case should have a vertical orientation when being transported to facilitate hallway and bus aisle navigation and more easily fit into student lockers.
